Mido, Zaki out of Djibouti game

Egypt’s strike duo Amr Zaki and Mido have been ruled out of Sunday’s World Cup qualifier against Djibouti due to injury.“Mido is suffering from a groin problem. He has been left out of Egypt’s 18-man squad for the Djibouti match,” team doctor Ahmed Maged told FilGoal.com.“Zaki has a torn calf muscle that will prevent him from taking part in the game.”Wigan Athletic frontman Zaki initially sustained the injury during the Latics’ goalless draw with Tottenham Hotspur on September 21st.He aggravated the problem during Wigan’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City seven days later, but still managed to feature against Middlesbrough the following week.Zaki was entitled to play against Djibouti after coming through several training sessions unscathed. But he will have to sit out the game as the problem came to haunt him again.The 25-year-old could also miss Wigan’s clash against Liverpool next week as he needs 10 days of rest, according to agent Mohamed Saied.Egypt coach Hassan Shehata now have just two recognized strikers at his disposal – Ittihad Jeddah’s Emad Meteb and Harras Al-Hodoud’s Ahmed Abdul-GhaniA draw for Egypt against minnows Djibouti in Cairo would be enough to send them through to the last phase of the World Cup qualifiers as Group 12 winners.

Mido shines in Egypt training

Middlesbrough striker Ahmed “Mido” Hossam caught the eyes during Egypt's Thursday training session ahead of the World Cup qualifier against Djibouti.
Mido is taking part in Egypt's Alexandria training camp in preparations for the Pharaos' final second stage qualifier on Oct. 12.
Alongside Wigan Athletic's Amr Zaki, Mido raised the eyebrows in Thursday's training by scoring twice.
Meanwhile, Zaki ended fears about his calf injury after taking part in the whole session.
Alongside Mido and Zaki, goalkeepers Essam Al-Hadari and Abdel-Wahed Al-Sayed also gave good performances during the session.
Egypt already guaranteed qualifying to the next round as they top group 12 with 12 points out of five games.

in a phone call with Modern sport Mido said that Wigan offer 7 Million to sign me but there was a meeting between me, southgate and Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson for an hour and they agreed that Boro need me and no way i can leave ..
Mido added : Steve Bruce call me to replace Emil Heskey wich will leave soon , but Southgate told me that the team need me .

Aliadiere wants Mido to stay at Boro

JEREMIE Aliadiere has pleaded with Mido not to quit Middlesbrough.
Boro’s unsettled £6m forward has been strongly linked with a season-long loan move to Wigan Athletic after failing to earn a place despite his goal-a-game start to the campaign.
Reports in his native Egypt suggested the former Spurs star would welcome a move to link up with Steve Bruce at the JJB Stadium, but the 25- year-old reiterated his commitment to the cause after clear-the-air talks with manager Gareth Southgate.

Mido’s three-goal haul could earn him a recall at home to Stoke City tomorrow, and Aliadiere has told his team-mate to shelve any plans he may have to call time on his 12-month Boro career to help the club’s bid to secure a top 10 finish this season.
The Frenchman said: “It depends on the player how he reacts to not being in the side, but you’ve got stiff competition for places at every big club, especially up front, and it’s no different here.
“I’d love Mido to stay because he’s a quality player and he’s shown that by scoring three goals already this season. We need players like him at the club and I’d be disappointed if he left but it’s his decision and also the manager’s.”
Mido, who is also interesting his former Spurs boss Martin Jol, now in charge at German Bundesliga side Hamburg, has already racked up eight clubs in his short career.

Boss: Stability Is What Mido Needs Now

TOP gun Mido can be part of something special if he lays down roots with Boro, says boss Gareth Southgate.
Although he is still just 25, the Egyptian striker has played for eight clubs in seven different countries since making his debut in his homeland in the 1999/2000 season.
After an injury-ravaged first season on Teesside he has started the current campaign in blistering form, with the help of a tough summer training regime, and he currently sits joint top of the scoring charts alongside Villa's Gabriel Agbonlahor.
And despite reports that he is unhappy with a lack of first team starts, Southgate believes stability is what Mido needs more than yet another move.

"It's time he had a more settled period in his career and was at a club for a bit longer and if that period takes us where I think it can, I think he will enjoy it," he said.

"His attitude to not starting at the moment has been first class. He's had a big impact for us from the bench and he's pushing hard to be in the starting line-up.
"I've said to him, I want him to be part of this football club. I understand that he wants to play and he will be causing me headaches in terms of selection."
So many Boro players are performing well at the moment that it's hard for Southgate to leave anyone out, but the manager says that's far better than having a team that picks itself.
"At the start of the season it was easy because Mido hadn't played pre-season matches," he explained. "But I don't want it to be easy - we had that last season. "If we want to be competitive as a team, not just this month but in November, December and January, we need that strength in depth. He knows how I feel about him and what I want from him.

"He enjoys it here but he wants to play regularly. I work with him and all the players and I think the reason he joined us is because he believes in what we're trying to do and he can play a big part in that. "He's a big crowd favourite, despite all the problems he had last season, because he's a good footballer."
Mido has had spells with Zamalek, Gent, Ajax, Celta Vigo, Marseille and Roma but his style has proved ideally suited for the Premier League and he played more games during a successful loan spell at Spurs than for any of his previous clubs.
His tally of three goals from three games in a week-and-a-half has already equalled his total during the whole of last season.Asked whether Mido owes Southgate a debt after making just eight starts and four substitute appearances during that first season, the manager said: "It's not a case of doing it for me, players owe it to themselves. "He has a talent and we want all our players to fulfil the talent they have and I think he can do that with us."

But with Afonso Alves (above), Tuncay and Jeremie Aliadiere also looking highly impressive, nobody is guaranteed a starting place - including Mido. "We know what he's got and all the forward players we've got have different attributes and assets," said Southgate."During the game on Saturday Mido showed he has physical power and the ability to win headers, which is something our other strikers don't have. "We've got the four strikers from last season plus Marvin, who can play up front, and the way we're playing now we could also put Adam Johnson or Stewart Downing into that area.
"It gives us options to pick the team according to who we're playing against."

Southgate warns Wigan to keep hands off Mido

GARETH SOUTHGATE has issued Wigan with a hands-off warning over Mido.
The Egyptian claims the Latics want him on loan and is seeking assurances from the Boro boss over his chances of regular first-team football.
But after Mido scored his second goal of the season from just two substitute appearances, Southgate - asked if Wigan could forget about any move for the striker - said: “Yeah, no one from Wigan has spoken to me.
“Mido’s the sort of lad who wants to play regularly but I said to him a couple of weeks ago that I believe he will play football with us.
“He’s shown how important he can be for us in these last two weeks, he’s a good footballer and a goalscorer, his record throughout his career has been excellent.
“He’s giving himself every chance of a starting position.”
Southgate has all but given up on landing James Harper from Reading, with talk on the Continent of a renewed bid for Heerenveen’s US midfielder Michael Bradley.
Meanwhile, former Boro starlet Lee Cattermole, who did join Wigan, has revealed: “It was sad to say goodbye to the lads and everyone there, but sometimes you have to make big decisions like this.
“I made the decision to move on, and I take with me some very happy memories of my years at Middlesbrough.”
