Mido set for Rovers return

...MIDO is set to return to the Middlesbrough side at Blackburn this week – and has set a target of 10 Premier League goals before the end of the season.
The £6 million Egyptian star has two goals in eight appearances for the Teessiders, but has been out since October with a pubic bone injury.
He was expected to play for the reserves last week, then figure in yesterday’s home clash with Liverpool but suffered a setback in training.
Now though, he is confident of playing a part at Ewood Park on Saturday – and taking his goal tally to 10 by the end of the campaign.
“I am close, I had a little setback during training last week and now I am trying to recover from it. I was hoping to be fit for the Liverpool game but I will be aiming for the next match,” he said.

It is the most frustrating thing that can happen to a footballer, to be away for a long time. It is especially frustrating for myself as a new signing because I still have things to prove to the club and the supporters.
“But that is football and I have to deal with it and get back into my top form as quick as I can. If I can finish the season in good form and with 10 league goals that would be a good achievement for me because I have been out for a long time.
“If I can end the season well then it will be good for me and the club.”

Mido stuck on the sidelines

STAR striker Mido must wait a little longer for his eagerly anticipated return to Premier League action.
Boro have delayed the Egyptian striker’s comeback until he has achieved full fitness on the training ground.
The striker’s ongoing battle to make a full recovery from his stress fracture of the pubic bone means that the door will finally be closed to his possible participation in the African Nations Cup, which starts on January 20.
In fact, Mido may not be back for Boro until the FA Cup fourth round tie at Mansfield Town on January 26.
Gareth Southgate told the Evening Gazette: “I initially hoped that Mido might be able to take some part in the reserve game on Tuesday, but he was not ready.
“That means that he was not ready for inclusion in the squad to face Liverpool.
“He needs more training before he can be involved in the first team.
“We won’t be pushing him through too quickly because there’s no point playing someone who is not ready.
“We want him back in the squad, but he needs another good full week’s training and possibly a reserve game.”
This means that Mido may not be ready to return at Blackburn Rovers next weekend - though Southgate is not prepared to prejudge the situation.
The next official reserve game is against Newcastle United at Billingham Synthonia on January 22.
By that time the African Nations Cup will be under way, which ends fears that Egypt may try to drag Mido to Ghana at the last minute.
Neither he nor Boro would have had anything to gain if he had been rushed back too quickly - and found himself thrown into Egypt’s group games.
Southgate revealed that the Egyptian coaches had been keeping close tabs on Mido’s progress.
But the striker was left out of the Egypt squad that was provisionally named for the African Nations Cup and will not now be added before the opening game.
Mido’s teammate Mohamed Shawky missed Egypt’s recent warm-up game as a result of the hamstring injury picked up in his Premier League debut at Portsmouth on December 29.
However he remains part of the squad and could be fit to play in the group games.

Egypt manager Hassan Shehata has named his final 23-man squad for the African Nations Cup.Defender Ibrahim Saied has been included in the list despite his knee injury.

“He would be fit in time to play in the Nations Cup,” the Pharaohs doctor said.

Shehata dropped Ismaili defender Sherif Abdul-Fadil and Petrojet duo Walid Soliman and Osama Mohamed. Although Petrojet midfielder Ahmed Shaaban, who made his international debut against Namibia last week, booked his ticked for Ghana following Hossam Ghaly’s return to England to complete his move to Derby County
