Wigan line up signing of Egypt striker Amr Zaki

Zaki with Zamalek

Wigan manager Steve Bruce is trying to tie up a deal for Egyptian striker Amr Zaki.
Bruce had a £4.1m bid for the striker turned down in January but was in Egypt over the weekend to watch Zaki, 25.

However, his agent Mohamed Sayed said: 'Wigan is a mediocre team in the Premier League, but it's a perfect destination for Zaki as he could draw the attention of bigger clubs later.'

Mido ready for Man City game .. but Southgate prefer to give him a rest !!

It was reported in Egyptian Programme at Al Hayat TV that Mido is recoviring from his surgery and ready to bak to training and play matches and he can play against Man City , but Southgate prefer not to play with Mido and give him arest to be ready for the pre season training for next season

Gareth’s summer shopping targets

A STRIKER and two new midfielders will be Gareth Southgate’s summer transfer priorities.
With a strong backline already in place, and Afonso Alves expected to be at his peak after a full pre-season, the Boro boss has turned his attention to the problematic midfield.
Stewart Downing apart, goals from that area have been scarce in 2007/08 with regular occupiers of the engine room Julio Arca, George Boateng and Fabio Rochemback collectively scoring just three in 80 league games.
Those three have also contributed relatively few assists, making identifying and purchasing creative, goalscoring midfielders a priority. Boro are not expected to exercise the option which enables them to retain Rochemback beyond the summer while Boateng has only one year left on his current deal and could well move on.
On the right, Southgate expects more from Gary O’Neil next season while both Jeremie Aliadiere and Tuncay can slot into that position. Up front, Boro made genuine attempts to sign Wagner Love and Fred in January, and they are expected to make further bids to strengthen that area.
Southgate may have to realise an asset or two to finance such a deal, with Egyptian striker Mido the only obvious candidate.
Boro have signed 18-year-old England youth international Chris Smalling from Ryman Premier Division side Maidstone United.
The promising centre-back has agreed a two-year contract and academy director Dave Parnaby said: “We tracked Chris through his international programme with England, and a member of our recruitment staff forwarded very favourable reports from his performances with both England and Maidstone.
“He is a very intelligent and level-headed young man who we feel has a lot of potential to fulfil.”
