Egypt survive DR Congo scare.. download goals

Substitute Ahmed Eid Abdul-Malek scored with just nine minutes left on the clock as Egypt came back from behind to beat DR Congo 2-1 on Sunday in their opening game of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers Group 12.The visitors took an early lead through Larrys Mabiala but the Pharaohs hit back with two-second half goals from Amr Zaki, 61, and Abdul-Malek, 81. Egypt are second of the group with three points just like Malawi who thrashed Djibouti, on Saturday, 8-1.Hassan Shehata’s men took early control of the game but failed to create any real threat on the Congolese’s net. The Pharaohs had the first sight of goal in the 24th minute when Captain Ahmed Hassan struck from the edge of the area but his shot went inches wide of the post.Emad Meteb missed the target a few minutes later as he failed to convert Hassan’s low cross while being in the six-yard box.And against the run of play, Mabiala hit a 25-yard free kick to give his side a stunning opener just two minutes before the break. With a goal down, Shehata had to take a maximum risk by using all his attacking options. Shikabala came in to replace underachieving Hossam Ghaly to put some pressure on the Congolese defense. In the 65th minute, Abdul-Malek, who replaced Al-Mohammadi, chipped the ball to Hani Saied in the box.The Ismaili defender headed it back to Zaki to volley the equalizer from nine yards. The technical staff had to make the third substitution as Ahmed Samir Farag had to be replaced by uncapped Abdul-Aziz Tawfik in the 73rd minute.He made a dream start as he fired a powerful long-range drive that was parried by the keeper into Abdul-Malek’s path.The Harras Al-Hodoud man curled it well into the back of the net.Egypt will have to travel to play against Djibouti, on Friday, in the second round of the qualifiers.
