Mido and Hossam Ghaly are two noticeable absentees in Hassan Shehata's preliminary Egypt squad for the friendly against Argentina.
The 58-year-old will announce the full squad a week before the March 26 match against the two-time World Cup winners.
However, Shehata has issued early call-ups to players based outside of Egypt - and the Premier League duo's names are not included in the squad.
The Middlesbrough striker missed the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations due to injury, but is not on the best of terms with the Pharaohs boss following a bust-up in 2006.
Ghaly also missed ACN as he was transferred from Tottenham to Derby just before the tournament.
Their absence hardly hampered Egypt as the North African nation stormed to a record sixth ACN title.
