MIDO could be back in action against Wigan at the Riverside tonight and Tuncay and Gary O'Neil return to the squad, but Emanuel Pogatetz could miss out with a foot problem.
Gareth Southgate has yet to decide whether returning Egyptian striker Mido will be in the final 16 for the game after his cameo appearance against Mansfield at Field Mill on Saturday.
Although he showed some neat touches and provided an aspect to Boro's play that has been missing during his lengthy absence form the side, Southgate says the 24-year is still some way off full fitness.
"He'll be in the 18 again but I have to decide whether to include him on the bench or not. He's not match fit at the moment and we have to work with him to get to that fitness up to speed."It's something we're working on twice a day. He knows that to play a part for us he has to be fit."
